FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER
CRAZY CREATURES
Niklas Auth one of our Runnymede St.Edward’s children entered a competition to design a crazy creature and his design was selected for the front cover of the book. WELL DONE NIKLAS!
RECENT OFSTED INSPECTIONS
Since September 2009 there have been changes with Ofsted guidance
and regulations. We now have to assess the children at play and promote
ways of improving their skills in numeracy and literacy. It is my belief
that whoever sets our rules has little knowledge of the time we care
for the children and the fact that our main aim is to teach the children
to play. The school day is for the children to learn and the after school
club is for learning to play well together and learn games to keep the
children active and fit. As the company has a commitment to quality provision
we have set ourselves the task of aiming as high as we can and therefore
since September we have been very busy making new policies, re writing
our own manuals and policies to include this new work. We have to formally
assess the 4-5 year old children and guide their play where it is needed.
Bishop Eton Kids’ Club achieved outstanding
and good outcomes.
Booker Kids’ Club achieved all good outcomes.
Both sites did really well so congratulations to all the team for their
hard work.
Ofsted grades
Grade 1 = Outstanding: this aspect of the provision is of exceptionally
high quality.
Grade 2 = Good: This aspect of the provision is strong
School closures during the snow..........
We
are sorry we couldn’t
operate but as the schools were closed we couldn’t! We didn’t
feel that we could charge the parents but we still had staff to pay.
We lost a quarter of our wages bill which is scary. We will have to change
our policies and agreements in time for the next academic year. It’s
a situation we have never had to deal with before.....
Our Wii SPORTS AND DANCE machines are in place and being enjoyed by all the children. Lots of action during the winter. months
BISHOP ETON
We have had a few changes in personnel at Bishop Eton. Jackie left to
move to Scotland, Georgina is her replacement at after school and Ashley
at breakfast club.
The Ofsted inspection went really well. 9 Outstanding and 7 good outcomes!
The new Parents entrance looks great and we have new storage and some equipment for the Early Years Foundation Stage children. Simon Hennessy got engaged at Christmas and he and Claire-Ann plan to marry in August 2010. Congratulations!
BOOKER AVENUE
Thanks go to Andrea Scott for the videos and toys she donated to Kids’ Club.
Booker have recently had lots of new equipment and they will shortly be receiving new storage.
Welcome to John Ollyott, our latest Playworker to join the ranks. He is very popular with the children and staff.
Booker achieved an overall ‘good’ outcome at Kids’ Club. ‘Good’ is deemed as ‘strong’ provision’.
Claire is now in charge of all staff rotas at the office.
DOVEDALE
There is building
work at school. This is not an ideal situation but it’s
one that is out of our control. We thank you for your patience when collecting
your children. We have risk assessed the situation and have put
systems into place to ensure everyone’s safety while they are with
us.
Playscheme is operating at half term. The school gates on Barndale Road
will be closed from 10am until 4pm. Parents wishing to gain acess can
telephone either of our telephone contacts during this time.

SUDLEY
Sudley Kids’ Club is back to normal after the changes lastsummer
at Bankview School. Our contract is signed at Ashfield High School (New
name) and our future secure. Whew what a relief. We were at last able
to purchase new cupboards and fill them with all the new equipment, stored
in a massive container held at school which we were unable to access
until Christmas due to the dark nights and accessibility and school needs.
Welcome back to Laura Defty! Hayley will be returning to work in May.
She’s looking forward to it!
ST MICHAEL'S
We have a new shed for outdoor equipment, new cupboards and equipment
for art and craft and general play. 9 of our children had their pictures
printed in a book for an Under Water Creatures competition.
Well Done!
WOOLTON
There
have been a few staff changes recently. Helen has left due to her increased
work load at school. Leah now works at our after school club in Mosspits.
This fits in with her work at a school during the day. Anne who previously
worked as a volunteer, is now working a couple
of days a week as a Playworker. Emily, who is early years trained is
now at Woolton, as are Rachael and Luke. Welcome to you all!
Yum, Yum
Yummy are coming once a week for 4 weeks to deliver healthy food options
to the children.
MOSSPITS

Many staff have been on relevant courses over the last few months.

Jenna Boyd has achieved her NVQ Level 2 in Playwork. Well done Jenna!
Kids’ Club will be covering 31st March and the 7th June for the 2 extra days school is operating to make up for days lost during the bad weather.
Yum Yum Yummy will be here in March. Ask Maureen. It’s fun.
Well done to Niklas Auth for his design being selected for the front cover of Crazy Creatures.
GREENBANK
In November the Greenbank staff cooked an American Thanksgiving meal
for the children. The children made flags and pictures for the table
displays. The children and the staff had a lovely time and enjoyed the
roast turkey. One of the Greenbank parents is American and made a delicious
butternut squash to go with the meal.
One of the Greenbank children’s
carers became very ill just before Christmas, so the children at Kids’ Club
made a large snowman and cards for her. She was delighted with her gift
and said it cheered her up.
